Preparation for the forthcoming trip to Calheta de São Miguel, Cape Verde

The preparation for the forthcoming trip to Calheta de São Miguel in Santiago island is now coming to an end, as I'll be flying to Cape Verde tomorrow.

The greatest difficulty so far has been to remind everyone involved in the project that there must be some "balance" in regards to the presents each child gets, to accommodate all the presents for the children in the two suitcases and backpack, taking into account the fact I'll be travelling on my own and thus subject to a weight restriction of 30 kilos and get the school fees money for the eighty nine children, letters and photos organised so that its local distribution shall be easier due to the scarce amount of time to do it in.

I have had to unfortunately leave some of the presents out, despite the fact that every child will get some (not all the ones their "godparents" have sent them, particularly the heaviest books and the "oversized" packs, which I've put aside to carry next time I fly there).

Thanks to a monetary institution some of the "godmothers" work at they will be getting a computer, whose main purpose will be to hopefully facilitate the contact between children and their "godparents" via skype.

Several people have been involved since the beginning of the project, whose initial aim was slightly different from the one which has been carried lately, but irrespective of the adjustments which have had to be made I would still like to thank everyone who has been an active participant since the beginning, those who have indirectly supported it, the recent newcomers (Teresa, Anabela, Sofia, Claudia, Carmo, Rui, Vanda and Ricardo) and even those who no longer are (but were once) a part of it.

May we all continue to make a difference in these children's lives ...
