Lisboa - Rossio Train Station ...

If the Rossio Train Station in Lisboa is of a rather exquisite beauty on the outside it is no less beautiful on the inside, though many people don't take (nor possibly have) the time to watch the extraordinary designs of the huge glazed tile panels on its walls.

The meaningful artistic approach of Lima de Freitas to some of our most intricate legends and myths allied to the artistry achieved by the ceramics factory of Constança are undeniable ...

Looking at some of these panels made me go back in time ... and remember the enthusiasm with which some of my Portuguese Language  and later Literary teachers spoke of many of the characters depicted in these tiles ... from Luis de Camões to Fernando Pessoa and Father Antonio Vieira,  Herculano and Almada Negreiros ...

I wonder if children and adolescents nowadays are taught  any of these rather "complicated" Portuguese myths we weren't able to fully understand then but which somehow played an important role in our academical education ...
