Calheta de São Miguel - The first morning - The 21st of April 2012 (cont.)

(...)

Diva's mother was away collecting wood so while we waited for her to get back Lurdes handed little Diva the presents she had brought for her and although she was not supposed to be a birthday guest we all agreed she should be exceptionally allowed to go once her "godmother" had travelled all the way there and they certainly had a lot to say to each other.

Lurdes was also lucky enough to have met Diva's brother and grandmother.

It was then time to go across to Daniela's and ask her mother permission for her to come to the birthday party the following day. She would later get the present sent to her by her "godmother" when we returned to the pension to have a small break before continuing our visits for the day.

Whilst waiting for Diva's mother to show up we decided to go a little farther and hand out the presents bought for Rivia  by her new "godmother" Olivia. As Rivia's grandmother happens to be Cynthia's mother we also decided to hand out Cynthia's present sent by her "godmother" Conceição and get permission for Rivia to be at the birthday party the following day.

Having taken a filming camera with me I decided it would be a lot more interesting for the "godmothers" who stayed behind to hear the childrens's messages "voiced" rather than written because that would allow them to see the children's expressions, so I had Rosana, Delmizia, Erica, Daniela, Cynthia, Jocelyne, Melissa, Tarine, Josefine, Nolita and even the little hearing impaired Ivanilde Elena "speak" to their "godmothers" Carla Brigida, Charlotte, Noëlle, Maria de Lourdes, Marie Hélène, Ana Mafalda, Conceição, Filipa and Rosa (to be seen and heard underneath).

I proposed they sang a song as well, if they felt like it and in no time they selected a religious song and as I was taping it a few more people (adults included) joined in ... making it a very special moment for us all.

Any place is a good place to show one's love but what made it extraordinary was the feeling they put into it ... their voices accompanied by the synchronized clapping were soon echoing in that "no man's valley"...

(To be continued)
