Cape Verde, Calheta de São Miguel (the morning of the first day) - still

(...)

Some of the children seem to have got more presents than others, but mostly because they were getting  both Christmas and birthday presents and others because of having got "gothmothers" recently, who aren't still  fully aware of the importance of there being some sort of "balance" in regards to the presents each child receives, not to create problematic situations.

Joceline  enthusiastically opening up the postal parcel from her "godmother" Marie Hélène.

Some of the older girls (Cynthia and Mena) didn't show up to collect their presents, but I was told they were at school.

Three other little girls, whose names I had not been given beforehand unexpectedely showed up and although I had nothing "special" for them, managed to hand them out a book and two puzzles (things that I always carry with me) and was glad to see they were happy not to have been left out.

None of the children left the room without writing thank you letters to those who had sent them something ... and they gave as much importance and solemnity to this moment as when they were given the presents ... (there is undoubtedely a lesson to be learned here) ...
