Peniche - The 6th of April 2014

Although the underlying pretext for heading to Peniche was the Chocolate Fair in the nearby medieval city of Óbidos the real reason behind the decision taken by my daughter and me was to get out of the capital city and gather with my  brother and a long lost companion, who has since then settled in that fisherman's location. In doing so the three of us "re-ignited" some of our childhood and adolescent memories to the utmost surprise of my daughter, who thoroughly listened through the whole "revival" process.

Thanks to Morais we were shown some spectacular views and taken to some beautiful locations, he seems to know more about than what is said in the books.

Although we didn't spend more than three hours (in total) in this known haven for surfers, we realised that Peniche also stands out for its rather imposing 16th century fortress, once used to "silence" the political opponents and the white sandy beaches and exquisite rock formations.

We vowed to go back some other time, in order to "explore" Berlengas island and eventually stay overnight ... and who knows if in fourty years time (that's how long it has taken us to gather again) we won't decide upon a second gathering to "remember" the experience we are still planning on.
