As we had an all day ticket decided to take advantage of it and go over to the controversial "free town" of Christiania, which most guides advise us to visit, as it might no longer exist in a few years time.
We got off at Christianshaven and started following our map indications, though having taken the wrong turn ended up further away than we were supposed to. The surrounding landscape was very relaxing though, so we felt it was not bad after all.
Our reference point was the1752 spire of Vor Frelsers Kirke, which according to the guide book has an accessible spiral staircase that runs around the exterior, whose idea its author (architect Lauritz de Thurah) was struck upon while visiting the church of Saint Ivo alla Sapienza in Rome.
Despite the fact that we might have had one of the best panoramic views of the city had we climbed it, we didn't because also according to the guide book it would have taken considerable stamina to to climb its400 steps. and by hen we were fairly exhausted.
The entrance to the "free state of Christiania" which exists since November 1971 was quite interesting but I don't think we were prepared to what came next ... and If I am honest I'll have to say that after having walked a few metres, we desperately looked for a way out, which again we didn't find easily.
Though it is said that Christiania was initially linked with the hippy drug culture and cannabis was openly sold I would say that it has gone a lot further than that and what I saw shocked me (... and I am not easily "shocked").
Together with three Spaniards who were also dramatically trying to find their way out, we walked into the Princessesgade and without looking back got onto the tube that would take us to the Central Train Station and the hotel.
As we walked out of the Station I came across a street notice referring a photo exhibition by one of my favourite photographers and anticipating I would not be able to see it, once we had a few things to visit on our last day, photographed it.
We had something to eat at one of the Train Station restaurants and went to bed fairly early, as it had been a really long day.
Copenhagen is a city so delicious, so tasty and stimulating as a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter afternoon.
